In
the fall of 2005 the faculty and staff of Moravia High School welcomed the Class of 2009
with a new program designed to facilitate a successful transition from middle to high
school, the Ninth Grade Academy. Moravia High Schools Ninth Grade Academy seeks to
provide the most ideal learning opportunities for incoming ninth grade students.
The Ninth Grade Academy is designed to provide students and teachers with the support
they need to achieve maximum academic, social and emotional success. The academys
features include an academic period in each students schedule designed to encourage
goal setting and accountability as well as organizational and study skills and a common
planning period for core content teachers (mathematics, English, science and social
studies) to plan collaborative lessons.
The Ninth Grade Academy is housed in one area of the building which allows teachers a
great deal of flexibility to plan and implement lessons that require extended time and a
team approach. The successful implementation of this program has allowed our ninth graders
to adjust to high school in a more positive and productive fashion. The staff members
assigned to the Moravia High School Ninth Grade Academy are:
Mrs. Dann School Counselor
Mrs. Dienhoffer - Global History and Geography
Mrs. Epstein - Living Environment
Ms. Hares - Mathematics
Mr. Leise - English
Mr. Mazza - Living Environment
