This fall the faculty and staff of Moravia High School welcome the Class of 2009 with a new program designed to facilitate a successful transition from middle to high school. The Ninth Grade Academy will seek to provide the most ideal learning opportunities for incoming ninth grade students.

The Ninth Grade Academy is designed to provide students and teachers with the support they need to achieve maximum academic, social and emotional success. Some of the academy’s features include an academic period in each student’s schedule designed to encourage goal setting and accountability as well as organizational and study skills and a common planning period for core content teachers (mathematics, English, science and social studies) to plan collaborative lessons.

The Ninth Grade Academy will be housed in one area of the building and many of the course offerings are linked together within the master schedule. This linking of courses will allow the teachers the opportunity to work with students over an exteded period of time on a variety of initiatives.

We anticipate that the successful implementation of this program will allow our ninth graders to adjust to high school in a more positive and productive fashion. The teachers assigned to the Moravia High School Ninth Grade Academy are:

Mrs. Dienhoffer - Global History and Geography

Mrs. Epstein - Living Environment

Mrs. VanEtten - Mathematics

Mr. Leise - English

Mr. Mazza - Living Environment

Anyone with questions regarding the Ninth Grade Academy is encouraged to contact Greg Jenne, High School Principal at 497-2670 or gjenne@moraviaschool.org.
