DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES II
The Moravia Central School District is accepting applications for a Director of Facilities II position. The district’s physical plant consists of the following: Millard Fillmore Elementary (130,000 ft2), Moravia Middle/Senior High School (150,000 ft2) and the approximately 10,000 ft2 newly constructed transportation center. Athletic facilities include a newly renovated fitness center, multiple sports fields and a stadium complex including a concession stand with public restrooms.
The Director of Facilities II will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the custodial and maintenance activities of the school district’s buildings and grounds department. Although certain activities are performed in the office, the incumbent of this position will, on occasion, be required to perform maintenance, repair and cleaning related tasks and activities, which may be performed indoors or outdoors under adverse working conditions. This position has supervisory responsibilities over all staff involved with custodial, grounds, maintenance, and where applicable, employees of the transportation department. The work is performed under general supervision of a school district administrator, which may include the Superintendent, with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate staff and the position does related work as required.

This is a competitive Civil Service position. The candidate chosen for this position will be required to submit an application and fee of $15.00 to NYS Civil Service for the Director of Facilities II exam when the exam is announced.

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one of the following:
- A Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology and two years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work in two of more of the skilled trades, which included two years of supervisory experience; OR
- An Associate’s or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology and four years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work in two of more of the skilled trades*, which included two years of supervisory experience; OR
- Six years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work in more than one of the skilled trades such, which included two years of supervisory experience.
Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license and certificates appropriate to the vehicles equipment and/or machinery operated at time of appointment or during the course of employment consistent with the needs of the School District.
Verifiable part-time experience may be prorated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIRMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS:
In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal background check.
