The February Art Student of the Month was Lindsey Jones. Lindsey is a 5th grade student at Millard Fillmore Elementary. Lindsey enjoys creating artwork in her spare time and is a member of 5th Grade Art Club in which she meets weekly with a group of artists to create personal and community service-based artworks.
Lindsey has had many artistic accomplishments this year. In October, Lindsey was named one of 10 winners for the Millard Fillmore Elementary Character Education Bookmark Design Contest. Her winning design illustrates the character trait “Courage” and includes a graphic of a bird singing as it leaves its nest. The graphic is accompanied by the slogan “Courage is to be brave.”
Currently, Lindsey has artwork on display at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn for the 2012 Three Lake Sampler exhibit. Her pencil drawing titled “Scarlet Macaw” will be on display through March 18th. Her work will also be published in the Three Lake Sampler book.
Lindsey’s favorite art materials are pencils and chalk pastels. She draws pictures of flowers and people for her room and says that she would enjoy being an illustrator when she grows up. When asked about her favorite thing to do in art, Lindsey said, “I like to draw by myself and be creative.”
