Boys and girls basketball teams win IAC Small School Championship

Congratulations to Moravia's boys and girls basketball squads, both of which defeated Newfield on Feb. 15 to claim the IAC Small School Championship Friday night at Tompkins Community College!


Grace Wasileski breaks school scoring record

Feb. 11, 2019 -- Congratulations to Moravia basketball player Grace Wasileski for scoring her 809th career point at Groton last week. She passed Allie Genson and set the new school scoring record.

Maddy Kelly makes game-winning shot

Jan. 28, 2019 -- In case you missed it, here's a look at Maddy Kelly's game-winning 3-pointer, which she sunk with just 2.8 seconds left in the game against Southern Cayuga last Friday. Way to go, Maddy!

Shoemaker named IAC champion

Jan. 28, 2019 -- Joe Shoemaker was crowned 170 pound-wrestling IAC champion this past weekend, and the wrestling team finished seventh as a team for the IAC.

Coach Ott commented: "This was some of the best wrestling we have done all year!"

Congratulations to both the Moravia wrestling team and Joe for their success at the IAC, and good luck this Tuesday (Jan. 29) at home vs. TAE on senior night!

Andrew Badman and Joe Shoemaker score big wins

On Saturday, Dec. 15,  the Moravia indoor track team competed at the Finger Lakes Invitational at SUNY Cortland, where Andrew Badman broke Todd Pittinger's 17-year-old record in the long jump (18 feet 7.25 inches) in the long jump! Andrew moved the record to 21 feet 4.25 inches. While breaking the record, he also won the event.

Also on Dec. 15, Moravia wrestler Joe Shoemaker competed in a dual meet tournament at Groton, where he won all fives matches and was the most outstanding wrestler at 170lbs. 


Moravia varsity basketball wins Tully Tip-Off Tournament

Dec. 10, 2018 -- Congratulations to the Moravia boys varsity basketball team for defeating Canastota in the finals of the Tully Tip-Off Tournament. In Moravia's 88-69 win over West Canada, Deegan Sovocool scored 30 points, Kaden Hooper scored 20, Gavin Genson had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Scottie Sovocool had 12 points and 10 rebounds. In the 75-59 championship game win over Canastota, Kaden scored 24, Deegan scored 13 and Gavin had 12 points. Deegan Sovocool was named to the all-tournament team, and Kaden Hooper was named tournament MVP.

Wrestling team win sportsmanship award

Dec. 3, 2018 -- The Moravia wrestling team was awarded the 2018 Rebel-Devil Dual Team Sportsmanship Award at the APW Dual tournament this past weekend. Congratulations, team!

Student-athletes honored as Auburn Citizen Fall All-Stars

Dec. 3, 2018 -- Each sports season, The Citizen honors student-athletes in the Cayuga County area for their excellence on the playing field. This fall, Moravia's Sierra Lyon was named The Citizen's Field Hockey Player of the Year, while teammates Grace Wasileski and Rachel Bancroft were also named field hockey all-stars. Among other all-star honorees are Joe Shoemaker (football), Lynnae Russell (girls soccer), Jenna Morris (girls cross country) and Jared Russell (boys cross country).

Nov. 26, 2018 -- Congratulations to the following athletes recently named to all-star teams:

Girls soccer:

  • First team: Lynnae Russell
  • Second team: Gabrielle Kehoe, Madaliana Raymond, Angelina Oliver and Megan Lamphere

Field hockey:

  • First team: Sierra Lyon, Lindsey Jones, Sydney Smith, Laura Landis and Emily Kehoe
  • Second team: Chloe McNabb and Grace Wasileski

Student, coaches honored during ESPN 'Night of Champions'

Four Moravians were honored during ESPN Ithaca's fifth annual Night of Champions event held June 10 at the Country Club of Ithaca.

Senior Maddie Funk was selected as Outstanding Athlete for softball, and Heather Susek (field hockey), John Crossgrove (girls basketball) and Dave Hewitt (softball) were selected as Outstanding Coaches for their respective sports. Cornell University’s men's hockey head coach, Mike Schafer, was the guest speaker.
