December Athletes of the Month announced

Jan. 11, 2018 – Congratulations to the four Moravia athletes who were nominated as December Athletes of the Month by their respective coaches.

Alexa O’Brien, grade 10, indoor track

“Alexa has focused her energy on decreasing her time in the 3,000-meter race,” write Coach Doug Langtry and Coach John Owen. “She has come to practice every day looking for ways to improve her time and has put in extra training to improve. Alexa has dropped her time by almost 30 seconds and is continuing to improve,”

Andrew Badman, grade 11, indoor track

“Andrew works incredibly hard and expects the most form himself and his teammates,” the coaches write. “So far this year he has broken two school records. We expect to see more this winter season.”

Sierra Lyon, grade 12, basketball (guard)

“Sierra leads her team in most categories and is near the top in all others,” Coach John Crossgrove writes. “Sierra averages double figures in points and leads in assists with 5.4 in a game and an extremely low 1.3 turnovers per game. Beyond being the most efficient guard in the league, she also holds the title of ‘Ms. Clutch.’ When a play is needed late in the game, Sierra can do it on offense and defense.”

Casey Smith, grade 12, wrestling

“Casey has figured out that hard work pays off and is working extremely hard at practice,” Coach Fred Ott says. “Casey went 5-0 with three pins and 2 technical falls at the Sara Allen Duals in Groton on Dec. 16, earning him the ‘best wrestler’ award for 138 pounds.”
