The Moravia Central School District is excited to announce summer enrichment opportunities for students in grades 5-12. Please check out the great programs below!
Summer programs meet on different days and times and transportation is not provided to and from the summer program. The programs are free for all students who participate.

Hispanic Cultures of the World
Instructor: Bethany Mendoza
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 7/12-7/14
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Description: "¡Vamos de viaje por el mundo Hispano! Come travel the Spanish-speaking world with the world language department in this 3-day program where students will learn about the many countries that represent the Spanish-speakers of the world. Together we will use what we learn to prepare for the Moravia Hispanic Heritage Cultural Festival held at the end of National Hispanic Heritage Month in the fall. Students will gain a series of mini cultural lessons for each of the countries and interact in fun games to help them retain their knowledge. These lessons will help us create learning materials, decorations, t-shirts, promotional posters/ signage, among more for the festival in the fall. We can't wait to learn with you! ¡Nos vemos pronto!"

Jewelry
Instructor: Casie Thompson
Level: High School
Dates: 7/11-7/15
Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Description: Do you like wearing jewelry or working with metal? In this class you will learn the basic techniques for cutting and soldering metal as well as using enamel to create designs on the surface of the metal. By the end of the course you will be able to take home a handcrafted metal artwork!

Summer Band Program
Instructor: Chris Little
Level: 4th and 6th Graders
Dates: 7/21, 7/28, 8/4, 8/18
Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Description: The session is aimed at instrumental musicians entering grades 4 through 6 (though older musicians are welcome!). We'll meet approximately once a week (4 times in total throughout the summer). We'll learn songs, play music based games, play duets and trios, improvise, and compose in each of our five sessions. Each session will be 30-45 minutes and organized by instrument or instrument family depending on enrollment. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to sign up!

Baking Basics
Instructor: Courtney Coningsby
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 7/27
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: Spend the afternoon baking and decorating sweet treats. Continue to use your culinary skills from family and consumer sciences and bake some tasty treats. This one day program allows students the freedom and creativity to take basic baking ingredients and turn them into something delicious. Students will practice various baking and decorating techniques within the program.

Becoming an Entrepreneur
Instructor: Courtney Coningsby
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 7/28
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: Have you ever thought about creating your own business? Start with the basics of entrepreneurship and create your own thriving business in four weeks. This program will start by brainstorming and developing an idea for your own business. Once this is established, each week will include different aspects of becoming an entrepreneur including writing a business plan, creating marketing materials such as a logo and slogan, business cards, and expanding competence in areas of technology, communication, and collaboration.

Culture Cuisine

Dates: 7/5, 7/6
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: Don’t forget your passport! Let’s take a trip around the world this summer to explore new cuisines and prepare dishes that originated in that country. This two day program allows time for researching and developing a cooking plan, as well as preparing the dish(es) selected from your chosen country. Once everyone has completed their cooking lab, we will take a trip around the world sampling the cuisines offered.

Hydroponic Planting
Instructor: Courtney Coningsby
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 7/19-7/20
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: Hydroponic planting provides fresh food and produce all year long. In both, Family and Consumer Sciences and Agriculture, students will have the opportunity to explore new hydroponic planting systems and plant seeds for a variety of fruits and vegetables. This promotes the motion of farm to table and allows students to develop an understanding about where their food comes from.

Log Cabin Quilting
Instructor: Courtney Coningsby
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 7/11-7/13
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: This program is designed to teach the basics of machine sewing and quilting. Each student will create their own quilted pillow or lap quilt using a log cabin pattern. Students will learn how to follow a sewing pattern, basic machine stitches and techniques in quilting. Also, this is a great opportunity for students to express creativity and artistic abilities. Sewing is used as a relaxation technique and promotes concentration.

Maple Production
Instructor: Courtney Coningsby
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 7/18
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: This program is open to students who participate in FFA and are interested in learning about the Maple Production Systems. NYS is second in the nation for maple production. Students will be given the opportunity to set up and explore an advanced maple filling and finishing system. Maple syrup connects multi-curricular content areas including chemistry, biology, math, history, economics and nutrition.

Summer Jams

Dates: 7/25-7/26
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: Learn how to prepare jams and jellies this summer! Using fresh ingredients from the season, students will learn to prepare and preserve homemade jams and jellies. This program will promote the motion of farm to table and allow students to learn new skills within the kitchen.

Summer Shakespeare Camp
Instructor: Dustin Bush
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 8/1-8/18
Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Description: Welcome to Summer Shakespeare! Students will spend an engaging two weeks reading a Shakespearian play, watching Shakespearian performances, and designing a short Shakespearian performance with their peers. Ideally, students will be given options as to which play(s) they would like to read, study, and perform.
The goal of this program is to increase students’ familiarity with Shakespeare, build their competence in studying drama, and to tailor a fun, engaging, and enjoyable experience to meet students’ needs and interests.
This program is intended to be a fun introduction to the study of drama, Shakespeare specifically. It is intended to be a fun, care-free, non-judgmental environment where students can get comfortable with the language, witness performances, and build their own confidence in the study of and performance of Shakespeare.

Get Crafty

Description: This class is for anyone who loves glitter and wants to design their own creations. We will explore a variety of crafts and learn how to use the Cricut machine to create one- of-a- kind items.

Lit Crew

Dates: 7/21 and 8/25
Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Description: The ultimate book group! We will read awesome books and get together to chat about them, do a bookish craft and enjoy being with other readers. Could be a FUN way to check off your summer reading assignment. Snacks will be provided.

Summer Musical Theater Camp
Instructor: Joanna Kufs
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 8/1-8/5
Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and then 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday with performance
Description: At this summer’s musical theater camp students in grades 7-12 will explore singing, dancing, and acting by working on a variety of musical theater repertoire. Throughout the week students will rotate through groups to polish their skills in all areas of musical theater. Repertoire selected will be based on ability of the group and individual performers. All levels of experience are welcome! Students interested in the technical end of musical theater (sound and lights) will be joining the camp on a limited schedule. The week will end in a culminating performance of the scenes and musical selections that students have worked on throughout their week at camp.

Lady Devil Physical Training
Instructors: John Crossgrove, Katie Lupo, Ronica Weeks
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: There will be 3 Saturday testing days, 6/11, 7/23 +8/13 10-noon.
The first 5 training sessions will be before school lets out 6/13, 6/15, 6/17, 6/20, 6/22 3-4:30.
From June 28th through August 11th sessions will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-10:30 AM and Wednesdays 2:30-4 PM. No sessions July 5,6,+7.
Athletes need to come prepared with athletic attire and good training shoes.
Athletes will not be expected to attend every session.
Description: For the Moravia Female Athletes That have played a JV or Varsity Sport at Moravia or will be in the next school year. Or for the High School girl who wants to learn more about working out and training.

Advanced Manufacturing and Elementary Robot Building
Instructor: John Kula
Level: High School
Dates: 8/1-8/5
Time: 8 to 11 a.m.
Description: Do you have a favorite Pokemon character? Would you like to see your favorite character come to life? If you would, then join me in the shop this summer and we will do just that. Using programs such as Thingiverse and Cura we will watch our characters grow as they are 3D printed on our Dremel printers. After printing, characters can be painted to really make them come to life. Finally, characters will be set in motion using elementary robotics.
If this sounds like fun to you then join me August 1-5. Depending upon interest level and registration numbers I would like to adhere to a half day morning schedule. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to seeing you in August.

1st Amendment - 1st Vote's CNY Women's Rights Corridor Visits

Dates: 7/25-7/29
Description: Moravia students are invited to join Ms. Hempson this summer on a 5-day adventure to discover the impact of American women as leaders for change in our area. Students will attend 3 field trips to visit several women’s rights historical sites along the CNY Women’s Rights Corridor. Lunch will be provided for students each day. Our first stop will be Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, NY to discover the cultural legacy and influence of Haudenosaunee Clan Mothers on the formation of our American government, and on early women’s rights activists in the United States. Our second trip will be to travel to Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn for a guided tour of Tubman’s residence and burial site to learn about this world-renown abolitionist who also fought and advocated for women’s suffrage. We will then travel down the road to visit the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center to learn more about women who influenced the suffrage and women’s rights movements in our country. Finally, we will travel to Seneca Falls, NY to visit the Women’s Rights National Historical Park and the National Women’s Hall of Fame to discover/learn more about first-wave leaders of the women’s rights movements in America, as well as yesterday’s and today’s change-making women inducted into the Hall. This opportunity is a precursor to the 1st Amendment-1st Vote, Inc. program, which Moravia has adopted starting the 2022-2023 school year. 1st Amendment-1st Vote is a non-partisan, civic engagement seminar and conference opportunity for high school teens who identify as girls to engage in the democratic process and imagine themselves as candidates for elected office in adulthood and/or as leaders in government-related positions. Advanced Soap Making

Dates: 7/25
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Description: In the advanced class we will cover additives (milk, honey, wax, nourishing oils, etc.) that any farmer/entrepreneur can market as an agricultural product. We will cover formulating your own personal recipe from the fats/oils of your choosing and advanced swirling techniques.

Soap Making

Dates: 7/11
Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Description: Students will learn the basics of making soap, the hazards of the ingredients and the lab skills to safely handle chemicals. We will cover the soap making processes in the basic class. Any student who takes the basic class or has completed soap making in my classroom is eligible to attend the advanced class.

Animal Science Workshop

Dates: 7/18, 7/20
Time: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Description: Interested in livestock animals and how to properly care for them? This workshop will explore the best practices related to animal care and welfare, dive into the various aspects of an animal and provide a clear insight into what a livestock veterinarian's day may look like. Join this workshop to learn basic animal care techniques, use hands-on manipulatives and learn about the everyday work of a veterinarian. Further, create and get a sweet taste of various agricultural products produced by animals.

Aquaponics and Wiring Kit Exploration
Instructor: KristiAnn Frank
Level: Middle, High School
Dates: 7/25-7/26
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.
Description: This program is designed to continue student exploration using another technique in producing food. Aquaponics is a form of agriculture in which the waste from fish or other aquatic animals nourishes the plants grown within the system. In addition to setting up the aquaponics system and creating a crop management plan, students will be able to develop an understanding of working with electricity. The Wiring Kit system will give you the opportunity to develop technical skills and leadership in your work experience by wiring the aquaponics system. This program is an all-around authentic agriculture experience incorporating many aspects of the field.

Construction Production

Description: This program is designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences through woodworking. In this program, two projects are proposed, building a picnic table and building raised flowerbeds. The final results from this program will benefit the agriculture department by increasing the growing area located near the greenhouses and providing students with a sense of ownership. Students interested in construction production fields and carpentry should check out this program!

Heavy Metal Workshop

Time: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Description: Are you interested in heavy metal operations and machine work? Join this workshop to utilize the new virtual welder from Lincoln Electric. Also, take this opportunity to be taught how to operate a SMAW and/or MIG Welder. Ever wonder how to cut through metal, you will be given a chance to use the CNC Plasma Cutter in this workshop. All skill levels are welcome, all that is required is an open mind and willingness to learn!
