Genson Collects Multiple Cross Country Achievements, Prepares for States

Moravia High School junior Olivia Genson has collected multiple cross country achievements this season – and still has one big race left to go.

Genson, a member of cross country team, recently delivered a stellar performance at sectionals, finishing in an impressive second place, and subsequently, qualifying for states. This incredible honor comes after Genson secured victory at the prestigious Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Cross Country Championship.

Genson's dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to excellence have propelled her to these outstanding accomplishments and solidifies her position as one of the region's top runners.

“We just trust in our training. We’ve been working really hard, and I’ve been pushing myself personally to be the best I can,” Genson said. “The goal was to win the IAC, and then finish in the top three at sectionals. Now, I just want to make sure I have a better performance at states than I did last year.”

Genson was among a handful of Blue Devils who competed in the IAC Championship. Genson finished with a time of 21:07.

“I’m incredibly proud of the hard work that Olivia has put in this year. Her determination and consistency in training has paid off,” Coach John Owen said.

Genson’s success even led her to New York City last month, where she competed in the 2023 Manhattan Cross Country College Invitation. Despite some difficult, rainy conditions, Genson ran a good race and represented Moravia well in NYC.

“I’d like to thank Mr. Owen and my parents for their support. They hold me accountable and make sure I do everything to the best of my ability,” Genson said. “The community support has also been amazing. I feel like before I’m even back home from a race, I have people reaching out to me.”
