Walker Qualified for National Championships; Prepares for Senior Year Success

Moravia High School is pleased to announce that soon-to-be-senior Westin Walker recently competed in the National Championships in the 400-meter dash held in North Carolina.

After a tough fought performance at the State Championships, Walker qualified for the national competition, an accomplishment he didn’t take for granted.

“The experience at nationals was a good perspective on kind of where I’m at and what might happen next in the future,” he said.

Walker said he had a stronger track season throughout the spring, despite battling harsh weather conditions. Walker also said he felt very comfortable and confident running 400-meters, as the requirements for the race fit perfectly into his skillset.

“It’s where I’m the best and most comfortable because I’m not the fastest kid out there, but my endurance is something that is really strong when I’m sprinting, so the 400 is perfect,” he said.

Head Track Coach John Owen said Walker’s achievements are a testament to his relentless hard work, unwavering dedication, and remarkable progress throughout the season.

“Westin has shown extraordinary determination and resilience, making our community so proud. He embodies the true spirit of athletic excellence and perseverance. As a coach, I couldn’t be prouder,” Owen said.

So, heading into his senior season, what can Walker do for an encore? As a three-sport athlete (cross-country, basketball and track), Walker is just looking forward to having a successful athletic year.

“Hopefully I can just give it my all next year and hopefully make some good memories out of it,” he said.
