Two Cross-Country Runners Earn Accolades This Season
Moravia High School is proud to recognize two outstanding members of its Cross-Country team for their remarkable achievements this season. Senior Olivia Genson and junior Natalie Torok have each captured deserved achievements through their dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship, both on and off the course.
Genson has qualified for the New York State Cross Country Championships, a prestigious accomplishment that places her among the top high school runners in the state.
Her dedication and tireless training have paid off, allowing her to represent Moravia on one of the biggest stages in high school cross-country.
“Personally, I just wanted to get to states. That’s always the goal, especially with it being senior year,” she said.
Genson’s achievements on the cross-country course are only trumped by her commitment to leading the team during practices, training sessions and in any other area.
“She has so much experience in the sport and she’s always giving us advice. It’s been great to look up to her,” said Torok.
Meanwhile, Torok was awarded the Brad Sanford Award, an honor given to student-athletes who exemplify high academic achievement, athletic success, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Torok has set a shining example for her peers, demonstrating excellence in her academic pursuits, consistent performances on the cross-country team, and a positive, encouraging attitude toward her teammates and fellow competitors.
“The sportsmanship aspect is what is most important to me. I really like the community of cross-country. It’s really supportive and I enjoy talking with all the other runners. Whenever we cross that finish line, there’s always people there to congratulate you,” she said.
Genson said she couldn’t think of someone more deserving of this honor than Torok.
“I am very proud of her. She deserves that award so much. She always shows so much sportsmanship, not just with our team but with all runners,” Genson said of her teammate.
Coach John Owen said the entire Moravia Community is proud of Genson and Torok.
“We could not be prouder of Olivia and Natalie,” said Owen. “Their achievements reflect their dedication not only to their sport but also to their academic and personal growth. They are wonderful representatives of Moravia High School, and we celebrate their hard work and accomplishments.”
