Description: 1st Amendment-1st Vote, Inc. is a non-partisan, civic engagement seminar and conference opportunity for high school teens who identify as girls to engage in the democratic process and imagine themselves as candidates for elected office in adulthood and/or as leaders in government-related positions.

This summer, 10 girls will be invited to prepare for and attend 4 field trips in Central New York to visit several women’s rights historical sites along the CNY Women’s Rights Corridor to learn about women as leaders for change.

Tuesday - 7/18 - 8am - 3:00pm WATERLOO, NY

Travel to the M’Clintock House, the Hunt House, and the Elizabeth Cady Stanton House in Waterloo and Seneca Falls, NY. Lunch at a local eatery in Waterloo, NY.

Wednesday - 7/19 - 9am - 3:00pm AUBURN, NY

Travel to Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn for a guided tour of Tubman’s residence and burial site to learn about this world-renown abolitionist who also fought and advocated for women’s suffrage. We will travel down the road to visit the NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center to learn more about women who influenced the suffrage and women’s rights movements in our country. Lunch at Cafe 108, downtown Auburn, then return to Moravia.

Thursday - 7/20 - 9:30am - 3:00pm SENECA FALLS, NY

Travel to Seneca Falls, NY to visit the Women’s Rights National Historical Park and the National Women’s Hall of Fame to discover/learn more about first-wave leaders of the women’s rights movements in America, as well as yesterday’s and today’s change-making women inducted into the Hall. Lunch at a local eatery in Seneca Falls.

Description: Come play games outside! Lawn and yard games offer students lifelong activity options that promote social responsibility, leisure activity for enjoyment, wellness, and can also provide fitness benefits as well. Students will engage in activities to promote team efforts, leadership, patience and social skills.

Description: A Book Club is a group of people who are reading the same book and who meet together to discuss what they’ve read. Book Clubs help students become stronger readers by combining collaborative learning with student centered inquiry. Book clubs help foster critical thinking and deeper meanings and understandings about literature. This summer, we will be reading, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky and comparing it with the movie adaptation.

Description: Students will learn about ecosystems while developing a physical model of a pond ecosystem in a jar. By planning and then building a physical model of an ecosystem students will better understand all of the living and nonliving components of ecosystems and how those components interact with each other. During the course of the program students will complete the following activities: 1) Learn vocabulary relative to the topic; 2) Use an anchoring activity to define the word “system” and explain how a system is broken into parts that work together; 3) Learn about the various nutrient and energy cycles present in ecosystems through readings, looking at diagrams, carrying out lab activities, and playing simulations; 4) Create models showing how nutrients and energy will be cycled in their pond jar ecosystem; 5) Identify the living and nonliving components of their model ecosystem using microscopes, guidebooks, and keys; 6) Describe the role/importance of the living and nonliving components of their model ecosystem; 7) Learn how nutrients in the environment (carbon dioxide, water, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorus) are taken in by living things; 8) Use microscopes and guides to identify living things that will be included in the pond jar ecosystem; 9) Use probes and test kits to identify the nonliving parts of the pond jar ecosystem and track any changes over a three week period; 10)Learn about the ways in which humans have impacted environments similar to their pond jar ecosystem.

Description: The Grow-NY Youth Competition wants to support the next generation of business developers, agriculture, food, and technology leaders by providing a platform to pitch their innovative idea and win prizes to support the development or expansion of their business. Description: Students will have the opportunity to design their own kite, learn the basics of flying a kite, and work with others to fly various types of kites. There will be two different sessions from 8:00 am - 11:30 am; each session will be limited to roughly 32 students. Session 1 will be on July 10th, 2023 and will be accessible to incoming K - 2nd grade students. Session 2 will be on July 11th, 2023 and will be accessible to incoming 3d - 5th grade students. Each student who participates in an enrichment session will receive their own kite to keep that they decorate during the session.

Description: Are you driven by design? Are you curious about crafts? Then this workshop is for you! This program connects areas of arts and design with lessons about world languages and culture. Participants will learn about the National theme for this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month observance celebrated by the World Language department, and brainstorm ideas for decorating and promoting the big event. This year is set to be the best year yet as we have a lot of new ideas and activities to make the annual tradition a success, and YOU could play a big role in making that happen! You will help Mrs. Mendoza to prepare for the event by designing and creating T-shirts for members of the Spanish program (both teachers and students) and another set for the winners of the district-wide competitions held that month. You will learn to use Cricut machines and the supportive computer programs to make these designs come to life. You will also use these tools to design and make promotional materials and supplies for the event itself. It is NOT necessary to take Spanish to participate, ALL are welcome and encouraged to join in the fun!

Description: What a great way to start your day! This program is designed to start your morning with some physical activity and then learn some tricks and tips for healthy eating. Students will participate in a one hour exercise program including gym or fitness center activities, weight lifting, or yoga. Then go into the kitchen and learn about health food options and prepare a simple meal or snack. Participants should wear workout attire including sneakers.

Description: Do you love the outdoors? The Outdoor Adventure program is designed to change young people’s lives forever by exposing them to the many great opportunities of the outdoors. In this program you will learn all about survival skills in the wilderness and try new outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking or paddle boarding, archery and more! This program will be hosted at Moravia Middle/High School and includes field trips to Fillmore Glen State Park, Owasco Paddles, Buttermilk Falls State Park and Taughannock Falls State Park.

Description: We are looking to revamp the way our students spend recess by furthering their ability to participate in structured play. While the playground is a great way to stay active, there are many students who would rather choose to play structured games during their recess time. We plan to use this enrichment to teach our students some other options to spend recess then on the playground, including but not limited to kickball, gaga, four square, and wall ball. Implementing structured game play during recess allows students to participate in teamwork, cooperation, communication, sportsmanship, and fair play. The program will involve student interaction within the games and will improve their social-emotional skills. We believe introducing new activities, such as GaGa ball will give them more choices to interact with their classmates in a respective manner. The program will be separated into two sessions: one on July 17th and one on July 18th. Students incoming grades 2nd - 5th will be allowed to sign up for both sessions or just one. Each session will include one main activity and several ‘mini - games.’ The main activities for each session will be GaGa ball, a newly growing game, and kickball, a traditional recess game.

Description: Are you looking to learn a new hobby this summer? In this program, students will learn the basics of machine sewing and quilting. Each student will create their own quilted pillow or lap quilt using a log cabin quilt pattern. Students will learn how to follow a sewing pattern, basic machine stitches and techniques in quilting. Also, this is a great opportunity for students to express creativity and artistic abilities. Sewing is used as a relaxation technique and promotes concentration.

Description: Learn how to prepare jams and jellies! Using fresh ingredients from the season, students will learn to prepare and preserve homemade jellies and jams. This program will promote the motion of farm to table and allow students to learn new skills within the kitchen.

Description: At this summer's musical theater camp students entering grades 7-12 will explore singing, dancing, and acting by working on a variety of musical theater repertoire. Throughout the week students will rotate through groups to polish their skills in all areas of musical theater. The repertoire selected will be based on the ability of the group and individual performers. All levels of experience are welcome! Students interested in the technical end of musical theater (sound and lights) will be joining the camp on a limited schedule. The week will end in a culminating performance of the scenes and musical selections that students have worked on throughout their week at camp.
