The REV Theatre recently visited Moravia Central School District to perform local short stories, including two stories by Moravia Middle School students.

The Theatre’s Echoes Program is designed for grades six through eight and is one of the largest middle school writing competitions in the United States. After taking part in a classroom workshop, middle school students from every participating district submit original material over the next several weeks.

The program receives thousands of submissions, and reads each one, and from them select dozens of poems, songs, stories, and skits to weave into an original 50-minute production. Out of those submissions, two Moravia Middle School students saw their short stories come to life –

“I am so proud, especially since two of our students were showcased. Their stories will be seen and heard by thousands of students from throughout the state,” said Principal Carrie Love. “I love the REV. We are just extremely grateful that they offer this to our schools. It’s a wonderful experience for our students.”

The Echoes Program brings the students’ writing to life with funny, thought-provoking, or heartfelt performances. They use costumes and props, musical instruments, and characters from zany to poignant. The resulting show, seen by students throughout the state, is unique and memorable, and showcases at least one author from every school that enters.

Every student who submitted a written piece also received an honor mention certificate.
