Moravia CSD Excited to Welcome SRO Sean DeRosa

Moravia Central School District is pleased to welcome Sean DeRosa as its new School Resource Officer (SRO). DeRosa, a dedicated law enforcement professional with a passion for student safety, brings a wealth of experience to the role.

DeRosa spent 22 years in the Auburn Police Department, including five years as an SRO in the Auburn Enlarged City School District. Those past experiences have taught DeRosa the value of building strong relationships with students.

“My main role is, of course, to keep everyone safe. And the students are more likely to hear or see something, so it’s important that they are comfortable coming up to me or another staff member to address an issue,” DeRosa said. “The best part of the job is getting to know the kids and building those relationships.”

DeRosa, who will split time between both buildings in the district, said he is extremely excited to get started with Moravia CSD.

Similarly, Superintendent John Birmingham said the district is thrilled to have DeRosa join the Blue Devil family.

“We couldn’t be more excited. Sean checked a lot of those boxes that we were looking for in an SRO,” Birmingham said. “He has experience as an SRO, along with many years on the Auburn police force. When he came in and met with us, he just instantly felt like the perfect fit for our students and community. I will echo what the board of education feels is the district’s top priority, which from day one has always been the safety of our students. So, if that’s our priority, then it’s very important that we support these positions and get the right people to fill them. We feel we’ve done just that with Sean.”

Birmingham also thanked Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck for his support and expertise during the process.
