Moravia High School Inducts 18 Students Into NHS

By showcasing success both in the classroom and within their community, 18 students at Moravia High School were recently inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS).

To be inducted into the prestigious NHS, students must exemplify the four pillars of the organization – citizenship, scholarship, leadership and service. According to Principal Jeff Green, each inductee has excelled in these areas.

“It’s an opportunity for us to recognize all these amazing students. And while it’s an opportunity to recognize their academic achievements, what I really love about National Honor Society is that we recognize character,” Green said. “We often talk about wanting to create a culture of good people and having students who care about one another. And I can personally attest that each of these inductees does just that.”

Guest speaker and Social Studies Teacher Richard Schubmehl provided a touching speech in which he discussed the importance of being an honorable person, no matter the circumstances. Schubmehl, a veteran, said individuals don’t need to be in the military to act with honor.

“Honor is the way you treat people. It’s how you live your life,” he said. “It’s doing the right thing when the right thing isn’t easy to do. It’s doing the right thing when no one is watching.”

Each inductee then recited the NHS Pledge with Counselor Shannon Taylor, officially signifying their induction to the organization. The following students were inducted:
