Moravia Trap Team Awarded $30,000 Grant

The Moravia Central School District trap team is proud to announce the receipt of a generous $30,000 grant aimed at bolstering their program and upgrading their facilities.

This substantial grant, awarded by the Cayuga County Youth Bureau, reflects the district’s strong commitment to supporting youth activities and fostering best safety practices within the community.

During a recent Board of Education meeting, Coach Mark Strong explained that he first heard of grant opportunities in the fall, and after researching the topic more, decided to apply for a grant on behalf of the trap team.

“Between a lot of paperwork, a lot of meetings, and a lot of praying, at the end of December we were notified that we would receive a grant from the Cayuga County Youth Bureau,” he said.

The grant will allow for substantial changes to be made at the Salmon Creek Sportsmen’s Club, which hosts the team’s practices and competitions. These changes include the building a trap house, lighting improvements, and providing handicap accessibility to the main building.

“Through a little bit of luck and some divine intervention, we ended up with this grant. It’s really like hitting the lottery for us,” Strong said.

Board Vice President and Coach Shawn Becker noted that what aided the team in securing the grant is the fact that they are the only school with a trap team in Cayuga County.

During the presentation, Coach Madison Becker also handed out awards from the fall season and patches for new members of the team.
