Students in Mr. Henry's U.S. History classes recently took part in a poster project to celebrate Black History Month.
Each year, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) provides a theme within African American history for the public to focus on. The theme for this year’s Black History Month was, “African Americans and the Arts.”
Students created posters that highlight the life and contributions of some prominent African American artists, including:
Vivian did her project on Aretha Franklin, an American singer, songwriter and pianist referred to as the "Queen of Soul."
Lillian did her project on Thelonious Monk, whose compositions have become the backbone to jazz compositions made today.
Evelyn did her project on Zora Neale Hurston, an accomplished novelist, writer and Civic Rights advocate known as a "Genius of the South."
Olivia did her project on Chuck Berry, a famous musician known as the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll."
