MIOSM Spotlight: Sixth Grader Milah Bergenstock

Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) is an annual celebration taking place in March which engages music educators, students, and communities from around the country in promoting the benefits of high-quality music education programs in schools.

To celebrate MIOSM, we selected one student from each grade level to discuss what music means to them. Next up is sixth grader Milah Bergenstock!

MIOSM

How long have you been involved with music?

I have been playing in the band and singing since the fourth grade. Bu I’ve always loved music since I was little. And I’ve always been singing.

What would you say you like more, playing instruments or singing?

That’s too hard. I love them both. I really love playing the trumpet. It’s really fun. But it’s also a lot of fun to sing.

You just participated in the chorus and band MIOSM concerts. How much fun are they to be a part of?

It’s so much fun to be able to play with the older grade levels. They have such beautiful voices, so it’s great to get to be a part of that.

Are you involved with musicals as well?

I am. I was in Matilda for the middle school, and I am currently in the Mean Girls musical for the high school. It’s a lot of fun to get dressed up. And as a sixth grader, it’s a lot of fun to be involved with the high school musical.

What are your goals for music moving forward?

I really want to continue to get better as a singer. I feel like I’m a good singer, but you can always get better. And the same for the trumpet.
