MIOSM Spotlight: Junior Hailey Adams

Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) is an annual celebration taking place in March which engages music educators, students, and communities from around the country in promoting the benefits of high-quality music education programs in schools.

To celebrate MIOSM, we selected one student from each grade level to discuss what music means to them. Next up is junior Hailey Adams!

How long have you been involved with music?

Well, I grew up singing. My mom and my whole family are really into music, so I started early. I started chorus in the fourth grade and have been singing since then.

What do you like most about singing?

I’m not a great public speaker, but with music and performing, everything is already written for you. And sometimes you can really relate to the song or a scene. So, you can really express yourself through that.

You just participated in the MIOSM Chorus Concert. How much fun is it to be a part of those district-wide concerts?

It’s a bit overwhelming, but there was also this sense of nostalgia I had because I remember being a fourth grader at the concert and looking up to the older students. And now I’m one of the older kids. It’s a concert I definitely look forward to each year. And it was really cool because my cousin is in the fourth grade, so she was there this year. And then my sister was there because she’s in middle school.

We know you love participating in the musicals each year. Give us some insight into this year’s show and what you’re most looking forward to?

This show is very exciting. I’m excited about ‘Mean Girls’ because it’s a movie I’ve definitely watched before. It’s such a good movie. I’m playing Karen, who is very ditzy. She has her moments sometimes, which I honestly do too, so I love that about her. She’s really one of the comedic characters. She may not be intentionally funny, but you really just laugh at some of the things she says.

As a junior, you have one more year left of participating in music at Moravia CSD. What would you say you’re most looking forward to as you move into your senior year?

I’m looking to get more involved. I’ve met a lot of people through doing the musicals, which is exciting because I get to share this passion with others. I’m just looking to find more friendships and experiences before I graduate next year.
