Superintendent of Schools Leahey's Message to the School Community

It is an absolute privilege to join you as your new Superintendent of Schools. From my very first day in the district, I have experienced the incredible warmth and deep-rooted pride that make Moravia so exceptional. As I settle into the area, I am truly enjoying the welcoming, small-town atmosphere that greeted us upon our arrival.
Set in the heart of the Finger Lakes, Moravia is a community where hard work, civic pride, and mutual support are a way of life. There is a genuine spirit in this town, and nowhere is that more evident than when we come together to support our students. Blue Devil pride runs deep here, and I am honored to join this outstanding community.
As we look toward the future, my commitment is to build upon the district's strong foundation and further enhance the partnership between our schools and the community. Over the coming school year, our work will focus on several key priorities:
-
Ensuring Safe and Welcoming Schools: The safety, security, and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We will continually evaluate and strengthen our safety protocols, physical infrastructure, and student support systems to ensure our schools are secure, supportive environments where all students can excel.
-
Developing Our "Portrait of a Graduate": What knowledge, character traits, and experiences will best prepare our students to thrive after graduation? We will engage families, local business leaders, educators, and students to define this shared vision. Your insight will be vital in shaping the future of a Moravia education.
-
Enhancing Our Facilities: Our school campuses serve as vital community hubs—from our classrooms to our athletic fields and facilities. We are committed to maintaining and modernizing these spaces so our Blue Devils have access to high-quality learning and athletic environments for years to come.
A thriving school district relies on strong, active community engagement, and I am eager to hear directly from you. I will host a series of Community Connections sessions this year to engage in open, face-to-face dialogue. I am currently finalizing these details and will share the schedule with the community in August.
In the meantime, whether at a district event or out in the community, I look forward to meeting you. Thank you for extending such a warm welcome to my family and me.
Go Blue Devils!
